Dermedica Laser and Spa Explain the Difference Between Medical Grade and Spa Quality Facial Treatments

Facial Treatments

Many people think of skin treatment as a visit to their local spa. While a facial at the spa can be relaxing and can help your skin achieve a youthful glow, the results from going to the spa are temporary. Taking advantage of medical grade skin care will provide a lasting change in the way you look and will enhance the quality of your life. Dermedica Laser & Spa explains the difference between medical facial treatments and spa facial treatments, examining the benefits of each.

Spa Facials

Spa facials are given by aestheticians in a friendly and relaxing environment. The person receiving the treatments should feel as if they are being pampered. Spa facials often include a massage to relax the customer.

A proper spa facial includes three types of treatments. First, the skin is cleaned and smoothed. An exfoliating treatment helps to wash away dead skin cells. Pores are deep-cleaned. The skin is moisturized using the appropriate moisturizer, serum, or facial oil. The skin needs to be balanced between dry and oily areas. Finally, the aesthetician targets specific needs, including acne, wrinkling, and other problems.

A spa facial is an excellent way to relax and feel pampered. Aestheticians are skilled at creating a relaxing environment. They can provide a more comprehensive facial treatment than the customer can receive at home, but the spa facial is limited in its scope, as it only takes care of the first layer of your skin, the epidermis.

Medical Grade Facials

The spa facial does not have the lasting impact of a medical grade facial because the treatments only affect the top layers of the skin. A medical quality facial resurfaces the skin and creates a younger and softer appearance. Microdermabrasion, lasers, and chemical peels are used to expose lower layers of the skin and to change the surface of the skin. These treatments are not intended to be relaxing, though many medical facial centers provide a warm and relaxed environment for their patients to enjoy.

Medical facials are performed by qualified medical technicians and their skilled team. With a medical facial, patients can be assured that the treatments are undertaken with the best possible results. Since the medical facial is performed in a medical facility, cleanliness is a top concern.

Types of medical facials include oxygen facials, Viva (nano-fractional micro-needling), chemical peels which are stronger than spa centers can use, microdermabrasion treatments, and laser resurfacing of the skin. Dermedica Laser & Spa uses these laser treatments to provide lasting change for their patients.

The laser facial removes the top layer of the skin, going further than chemical peels. This can cause redness and soreness after the procedure, but the results are worth it. Dermedica uses the Venus Viva laser to reduce stretch marks and scarring. They also use the Venus Legacy to tighten the skin and shrink fat cells through a process called lipolysis (which helps in weight loss and body contouring).

Dermedica uses advanced laser treatments called the BBL Photo Rejuvenation System and Lutronic Clarity Photo Rejuvenation System. These systems are capable of producing focused light at a variety of wavelengths and making it appropriate for a wide variety of uses. Pigment removal, including treatment of rosacea, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, and age spots, is possible with both these systems.

When to Choose a Medical Quality Facial

Choosing between a medical facial and a spa facial depends on what kind of results the patient is seeking. Spa facials are beneficial for anyone who needs to relax and pamper themselves, but a spa facial is more appropriate for a person who has fewer complex needs. People who choose a medical facial are interested in deeper, lasting change to the skin of the face. When people have bothersome skin conditions that they need to take care of, a medical facial is appropriate.

A medical grade facial helps to repair the fibroblast, which is the cell that sits in the second layer of the skin called the dermal layer. It is in the dermal layer where all the anti-aging and repair happens. Medical grade facials can be preventative and corrective. This is why doing a medical facial gives the patient a more restorative approach to anti-aging.

The results of a medical facial last much longer than those of a spa facial. If a patient is looking for lasting change, a medical facial is a much better choice.
