Self-Improvement

Many people feel like they are moving through life without a sense of purpose. Lost and adrift, people want to change their lives, but they aren’t sure where to start. Padma Aon Prakasha, a renowned author, musician, and public speaker offers these strategies to achieve self-realization and to realize each person’s potential.

Self-development begins when a person has a desire to understand themselves. Constantly feeling unfulfilled in life can have a damaging effect on a person’s self-esteem. The most complete self-realization will always happen when people make an effort to connect with their spiritual needs.

On its purest level, self-realization means having a full understanding of your soul. Separating your daily activities and worries from your inner self take time and thought. When a person makes his or her soul a priority in life, peace will flow from there.

Some people believe that self-realization is not possible when a person is struggling with life’s basic needs. People who are in financial difficulties or have serious health problems to deal with may set self-realization low on their list of needs. Padma Aon Prakasha believes that every human being would benefit from this spiritual practice. Getting in touch with the core of yourself can only help you while you are struggling to deal with life’s responsibilities.

The first step toward self-development is to meditate. Quiet and reflective time can help to combat the external pressures of life. Many people need time to unplug from their devices and their constant media consumption, and meditation can help to clear the mind.

Many people who are meditating for the first time get discouraged because they can’t keep their mind off their constant stream of thoughts. Mindfulness meditation may be easier for beginners. In mindfulness meditation, the seeker works to accept all of the thoughts and feelings running through their mind and body. This can help the seeker to attain a deep connection with himself.

It would also benefit beginning meditators to find a meaningful text or mantra to repeat in their minds. Pondering this text can spur the mind to a greater understanding of itself. The text can be as simple as “I wish to know myself.”

Another helpful self-realization technique is to think about all of your daily habits and to decide whether they are helping or hurting you. Breaking bad habits can be challenging, but it is an important step toward living up to your full potential. Perhaps you need to quit smoking or drinking. These damaging habits will only get in your way. Changing your life in this way can lead you to a better place in your physical health. Replace these bad habits with good ones, like daily meditation or time spent outside in nature.

When you are in the process of discovering your true self, journaling can be a great help. Even if you just have a few words to write each day, you can look back on your previous entries and trace the progress of your self-realization. You don’t need to purchase a fancy journal. You can even use a note taking app on your phone. Some people find a bullet journal helpful in organizing their thoughts and feelings.

These techniques can help anyone on their journey to self-realization. The two dimensions of self-realization are the spiritual and the everyday. When a person achieves self-realization, the external and the internal selves are in sync. Having a deep understanding of yourself will help you to create a better life. It will also help your relationships with others, as you will be coming from a place of strength and stability.
